Changing it uppp!

I have previously been posting a bunch of math things, however, today, I am changing it up!
Today I will be sharing a little goodie for writing workshop!

My district has just implemented writing workshop this last year! We just revamped out launching unit and made some changes for next year. However, throughout the year, I have made so many changes myself to writing workshop, because I am learning as I am doing, especially with my second graders. However, over all, I have really enjoyed teaching it!

So as I am redoing my writing workshop area of my room, I have made some cute posters to go along with it. So that is what I am sharing here today, the 6 writing traits are very important, and sometimes can be hard for kids to understand.

These pencils each have a writing trait on it, as well has some points that students can use to check their work and check to see if they have the trait.

There are 2 versions! There is the Polka dot version:

These can be found HERE on my TPT store!

I also have a more neutral version that looks like they were drawn with chalk! check them out below:

You can find this version HERE in my TPT store!

I also have a bunch of other great writing workshop goodies that I will be sharing coming up! So keep coming back to check!

Also, if I do get my 100 followers on TPT all of this will be on sale!

I will be back soon to share more! Thanks for stopping in! Come back soon!

Happy Monday!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend! The weather here in Chicago was absolutely beautiful.

So my current goal is to get 100 followers on TPT! I am kinda close at 86, and it would be so exciting to get up to 100! At least at a first goal point!

If I manage to make this goal, I will throw a sale, as well as mark down some of my biggest sellers! So if you see this, PIN IT! help me get my name and my store out there! Follow me, shoot me a comment, and I will return the favor!'

Moving onnnnnn…. I can't believe that we are moving into the end of april already! I have so many exciting things to share these next couple of weeks! Plus as we end this year, I am already planning my classroom makeover for next year, and I will be sure to share with you my new creations for it!

Currently in my classroom, we are finishing up geometry in math. It is always fun playing with shapes. We are wrapping up that unit, and will be starting money on Thursday! Money is always exciting to work with because the kids love learning about it. Now the tricky part of teaching money is that currently, the CCSS for money is simply

(CC.2.MD.8)
I can solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies using the dollar and cents sign.

This is tricky because…. it doesn't state that the students can identify the coins…. and it is not in the first grade CCSS either! So not only are we trying to get students to meet this standard, but we have to teach them each coin and it's worth first!

So if you are just starting to teach money for the first time, or even a veteran looking for a new way. The way that has worked for me is using touch money. We have already learned to skip count! So why not use that skill with money to help students count it! I have a packet in my TPT store to help introduce money, learn and identify coins, and practice counting money! This is a great introduction into meeting the standard! Here are some examples of the packet below!

These pages introduce the coins and how to use touch money!

Then practice practice practice!!!

Get this packet HERE!!

So I will leave you with this introduction for now! I will be back with MORE money goodies! Don't forget to follow my Teachers Pay Teachers store and get me to 100, then get this on sale!!

Have a wonderful evening! Be back soon!

Oh the beloved Spring Break Time!

I wasn't sure what my plans were for this spring break. I knew that I wasn't traveling anywhere, simply because I feel with only a week off, traveling seems rushed! So I am saving my traveling dreams for this summer.

Therefore, I decided I would not work TOO hard over spring break on things for my classroom. But I did not want to totally do nothing either! Plus, I did have some work to attend to for my masters program.

Now that it is Thursday, and I am back to work on Monday, I am not completely upset with out I spent it. I did my usual running around and getting things done, got my hair done (didn't realize how bad it started to get! oops!), got my nails done, had lunch with my bestie, traveled down town with the boy to visit places we don't always get to during our busy work weeks, and the weekends are just crazy in general! As for school work, I worked with my colleagues on starting our webpage for next year! (A. Next year? I KNOW, but we have to start because B: my classroom is getting 1-to1 iPads next year, and I have to attend a seminar on it the first week of summer, and we need to have it started!)

I have ALSO started my "TRAVEL UNIT" for the last week of school! I am super excited to get started on this thematic unit and will definitely share once it is all complete!

But for now, I wanted to share some fun GEOMETRY stuff! We are having fun with shapes in second grade. So I will share what we have done so far, then be sure to come back because we have more exciting things coming up soon!

Common Core State Standards: 2.G.1: I can recognize, draw, and identify shapes such as triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.

So to start, I have my posters for geometry. I love having the visuals for the students to refer to as needed!

These can be found HERE on my TPT store!

Next, I am sharing my packet that I use to add on to my instruction. It is great to use as informal assessment after you teach the shapes. I like to teach the shapes whole group, then let students independently work on the packet. It includes PLANE shapes and 3-D shapes as well!

PLANE SHAPES:

3-D SHAPES:

PLUS: Flip, Slide, and Turn AND symmetry and congruent shapes!

These great sheets are all in ONE product!

Find that product HERE on my TPT store!

Thanks for stopping in! Come by soon! =)
