I'm Back!

So I have not updated in the past month, unfortunately I have had some family matters to attend to. And I am sure all the teachers know, that when you take a couple days off of work, regardless of how important the reasoning, it always takes you some time to get the kiddos back up to speed once you return!

But I AM BACK! And I have been hard at work creating some new and exciting things to share with all of you!

So I have begun teaching measurement in my 2nd grade classroom, and I don't know about you, but it is not one of my favorite math topic to teach. Especially with the common core standards leading the way! I feel it is a hard concept to teach to second graders the different between CM., IN., Ft., and Yds., and expecting them to explain it in a written manner!

  • CCSS.Math.Content.2.MD.A.2 Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen.

However, it is my duty to do this, I am trying my very best! To teach this unit, I do have a packet of guided practice for the students and myself to use as we work through the measuring standards!

So I thought I would share this packet with all of you! If I become aware of the upcoming interest on my site, I would consider doing a FREEEEEBIE to the first 3 people who comment on this! I did not have luck with this the last time I tried it because I have a very small reading audience, BUT I will try it again to see if anything has changed!

This packet walks us through the measuring standards that include choosing the correct tool to measure, measuring in different units, comparing units, and comparing measurement!

This is a 25+ page packet that walks through the following standards:

2.MD.1: I can select and use appropriate tools when measuring the length of an object.
2.MD.2: I can measure the length of an object twice using different units, and comparing the measurements
2.MD.4: I can measure to compare how much longer/shorter one object is than another.
2.MD.5: I can use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve word problems involving length

These are some example pages from the packet! It includes many hands on activities for students to really explore and discover measuring with different units!

I am ALWAYS open to suggestions on how to make my products better! We all have our own way of teachers, and if there is every anything you can think of that may make this product better, please feel free to share! I am always revisiting these products and doing my best to update them and add to them as I feel needed! Everyone's input would be appreciated!

Again, thanks for checking this out! If you like what you see, please follow, or spread the word!

Everyone have a fantastic FIRST week of March! I will be back shortly with more measuring goodies!
